~Foreign residents can receive ¥100,000 per person~

The Japanese government has determined to hand out ¥100,000 as a measure of emergency economic response to the coronavirus outbreak. Here is the following information known at the moment.

【How to apply】

1.An application form will be mailed to the address of residence card
2.Heads of households will be responsible for applying for everyone in a family. Applicants will have to provide a bank account number, with copies of their ID (such as residence cards or driver’s licenses). Send the application form by mail.
3.Payment will be transferred into your bank account.

※In principle, you have to apply within three months since reception starts.

Q. Are foreign people eligible?
A. Yes. Every person who has a residence card can receive the money.

Q. Are children or elderly people eligible?
A. Yes. For example, if you are parents with two children, which is 4 people in total, you can receive ¥400,000 in total.

Q. Are foreign students eligible?
A. Yes. Every person who has a residence card can receive the money.

Q. I have children/parents who live in other country. Are they eligible?
A. No. People who don’t have a residence card are not eligible.

Q. Where is the application form sent to?
A. To the address of your residence card.

Q. When do I receive a payment?
A. The government plans to give it by the end of May, but it is presently being adjusted. Exactly when they start payment, we are not quite sure yet.
